ranked #2 by ben: "It's been said before, but this is really the 'Citizen Kane' of superhero stories. The story is so vast and intricate, and Moore and Gibbons successful turn every classic superhero stereotype on his head. The 'Batman' vigilante is not heroic, but is truly sick and terrifyingly unyielding in his pursuit of 'justice', the superpowered Superman character does not care about humans, instead leaving all earthly cares behind, and the classic 'supervillain' may just be the hero of the story.

I should also note that Gibbons is an astonishingly talented artist. His illustrations are not flashy, but have the exact detail and technical skill you'd expect to see in an anatomy book."
