ranked #3 by peter: "A win-win. Visible charity, with volunteers doing hands-on work, and the recipient having, and being responsible for, a home. The concept comes from earlier times...think pioneers raising a barn together....now one of the most common ways for young people to get started in volunteering. Great stuff."
