#3 on Best Comic Books (Limited Series/Graphic Novels)
based on 8 rankings
ranked #4 by ben: "The title of this book don't do justice to the brilliant symmetry of this tale - it really should be called 'Batman & Gordon: Year One'. Yes, we see Bruce Wayne adopt the mantle of the bat, and we see him make mistakes in his early days of crime-fighting. But we also get to know a younger Jim Gordon better. We see him contemplating suicide, we see him cheating on his pregnant wife. We see him as a real person, and not a one-dimensional supporting character for Batman.
Most importantly, we get a satisfactory explanation for why a cop like Gordon would allow, even encourage, a vigilante to operate in his town. This is a great book that really fleshes out Jim Gordon and how his relationship with Batman came to be."
