Wynkoop When Edward W. Wynkoop came here in 1858, this was Arapahoe County, Kansas Territory. The governor of the territory, James Denver, named Wynkoop to be its first sheriff. A nice pay-back came when the city was organized here and Wynkoop proposed that it be named for the Kansas governor.

It was obvious at the time that there was no one catch-all club attempting to bring in all the different elements of the burgeoning independent rock scene that was going on in the country at that point in time. One case in point – when a friend wrote a letter to the amazing northwest based band Seaweed saying they should come play Denver sometime, the letter writer later received a phone call from the bands agent asking for help trying to find a show in Denver.
